Mary - Kate and Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen (born June 13, 1986) are American actresses, best
known for playing the role of Michelle Tanner on the sitcom Full House. Both have appeared in television and films since infancy. Since then, they have continued their celebrity through numerous television programs, films, interviews, as well as commercial endorsements. They are fraternal twins but prefer the term individual pair.[1]

The girls were born in 1986 in Sherman Oaks, California to David Olsen (b. 1953) and Jarnette (Jarnie) Fuller (b. 1954).

In 1987, the twins started their acting careers on the television series Full House. They were hired at the age of six months and filming began when they were nine months old. The show was widely popular during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Mary-Kate Olsen
Ashley Olsen

Both sisters played the same character, Michelle Tanner, taking turns during the tapings to do so, in order to comply with strict child labor laws regarding child actors. For the first year, Ashley would cry when she was brought on set to do a scene, so Mary-Kate had more screen time in the first season.

Because the producers did not want viewers to know that Michelle was played by twins, the sisters were originally credited as "Mary Kate Ashley Olsen", but in the last season and most of season one, they were credited as separate people. During the eight year run, Mary-Kate and Ashley made several direct-to-video movies, in addition to Full House, such as To Grandmother's House We Go (1992).

Career

Shortly after the end of Full House, they began heavily merchandising their image. They established a company called Dualstar in 1993 and their brand has been sold in more than 3,000 stores in America and over 5,300 stores worldwide.[2] Because of this, they have been on the Forbes' "The Celebrity 100 list" since 2002, and in 2007, Forbes ranked them, collectively, as the eleventh-richest women in entertainment, with an estimated net worth of $100 million.[3]

Mary-Kate and Ashley were popular figures in the preteen market during the late '90s and early 2000s. Their names became a cottage industry, with their likeness seen in clothes, books, fragrances, magazines, movies and posters. There were even Mary-Kate and Ashley fashion dolls made by Mattel from 2000 – 2005.

They starred in the video series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley and You're Invited To Mary-Kate and Ashley's..., the ABC show Two of a Kind, and ABC Family's So Little Time. However, So Little Time was panned by critics and disappointed fans. Despite this, they were ranked number three on the VH1 program 100 Greatest Child Stars

Their most recent theatrical venture was in the light-hearted romantic comedy, New York Minute, also starring Eugene Levy. The film was expected to launch the girls into more serious adult roles, but was a box office flop.

Mary-Kate's first acting appearance without Ashley was in the movie Factory Girl, released in December 2006. Mary-Kate was originally in several scenes, but only appeared in the background in the finished film. Mary-Kate has also a recurring guest role in the third season of the Showtime series Weeds.[4], and she is also in the 2008 independent film The Wackness starring Ben Kingsley, with whom she shares a passionate kiss.[5]

Ashley is also appearing alone in the 2008 film "The Informers" starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Fashion

As the sisters have matured, there has been greater interest in their fashion choices, with the New York Times declaring Mary-Kate a fashion icon for pioneering her signature (and now popular among celebrities and fans alike) "homeless" look.[6] The style, sometimes referred to as "ashcan" or "Boho-chic" or bohemian-bourgeois,[7], is similar to that of Bohemian chic popularised in Britain by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. The look consists of oversized sunglasses, boots, loose sweaters, and flowing skirts all with an aesthetic of mixing high end pieces with low end.[7] Their fashion choices, however, haven't been without controversy. Ashley Olsen was included on PETA's 2006 Worst Dressed list for wearing fur.

Mary-Kate and Ashley have a clothing line in Wal-Mart stores across America for girls ages 4 – 14 as well as a beauty line called "Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girls". In 2004 they made news by signing a pledge to allow all the workers that sew their line of clothing in Bangladesh full maternity leave. The National Labor Committee, which organized the pledge, later praised the twins for their commitment to worker rights. The director of the organization, Charles Kernaghan, is quoted as saying, "The Olsen twins have done the right thing. Now it is up to Wal-Mart to either support Mary-Kate and Ashley’s commitment to women’s rights, or tragically to shut them down."[8]

They were tapped as the faces of upscale fashion line Badgley Mischka in 2006, in an attempt to gain credibility in the fashion industry after their association with Wal-Mart.[9] They have also launched their own new couture fashion label "The Row" named after the famous Savile Row of London. The pair have also started a new line for The Row, entitled "Elizabeth & James", named after their siblings.[10]

Mary-Kate and Ashley have been criticized by animal rights group PETA for their use of fur in their fashion line, The Row. PETA's youth group, PETA2, set up a website[1] in December 2007 in which they refer to them as the Trollson Twins, Hairy-Kate and Trashley.

Personal lives

Main articles: Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley have an older brother, Trent, and younger sister, Elizabeth, as well as two half-siblings, Taylor (b. 1996), and Jake (b. 1997). The twins' parents divorced in 1995. Taylor and Jake are the children from their father's second marriage, to Martha Mackenzie-Olsen.

Mary-Kate and Ashley announced in 2004 that they would be attending college at New York University after graduating high school. In 2005, Mary-Kate moved back to California. She decided to stay on the West Coast and pursue more individualized work with their company, Dualstar. Ashley, still in New York, remains in close contact with her sister.

In 2004, Mary-Kate checked into rehab in Utah for six weeks because she was suffering from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. It was rumored that there was also a drug problem, but the Olsens' publicist said, "Mary-Kate was not admitted for drugs. Period."[11] Mary-Kate put on about five to seven pounds immediately after her stint in rehab and pictures had shown that she may have gained more weight. However, Star magazine has, as of January 2007, released a cover story article on Mary Kate's, once again, very low weight. They claim she is at 80 pounds. She has been seen wearing baggy clothes and carrying vast purses. Her spokesperson has denied the weight loss claiming "Mary-Kate has not lost weight. She is taking good care of herself."[12]

In 2005, Mary-Kate ended her romance with Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III. Mary-Kate said that the breakup was one of the main factors in her leave of absence from New York University. "I miss him and I love him," Mary-Kate said, "It's a hurtful and a painful subject." When asked if there was a specific reason for her leaving NYU, she replied, "I think we can all guess."[13] The breakup and Niarchos's subsequent pairing with Paris Hilton led to a rift between Hilton and Mary-Kate. "[Paris and I] always only had nice things to say about each other," Olsen said. "Now I guess you can tell we're not talking."[13]

In 2006, Ashley filed a $40 million lawsuit against tabloid magazine National Enquirer for printing a headline reading "Ashley Olsen Caught In Drug Scandal," with a story accompanied by an unflattering photo of Ashley with her eyes half-closed. The lawsuit stated that the photo was clearly used to create a misrepresentation of Olsen under the influence of drugs. Ashley completely denies the accusations and said that she has not and does not use or sell illegal drugs. The suit consisted of $20 million in libel damages and $20 million in false light invasion of privacy damages. Per her suit, Ashley Olsen and her lawyers believe that "freedom of the press is a valuable right, but it is not a license for gossipy tabloids to tar and feather innocent celebrities and destroy their reputations and businesses for the rag's profits."[14]

In 2008, Mary-Kate Olsen was caught up in the media-hype surrounding the death of Heath Ledger after Masseuse Diane Lee Wolozin, who had gone to the apartment to give Ledger a 3 p.m. massage and found his naked body in his bed, phoned the 21-year-old Olsen twice before calling the 911 emergency service. There is also speculation that Olsen was having a relationship with Ledger at the time of his death.[15] Olsen released a statement through her publicist stating "Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family."[16]

Maxim names is Sara Jessica Parker Unsexiest

LOS ANGELES - Charlize Theron and Jessica Alba regularly find themselves among the stars dubbed sexiest in the world.

But which stars unfortunately find themselves at the other end of the beauty spectrum?

The folks at Maxim magazine have revealed their list of the world’s unsexiest women, which includes ladies of the big screen, small screen and the concert stage.

The list, featured in the latest edition of Maxim, dubs “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker as the No. 1 Unsexiest Woman Alive, claiming Parker was the “least sexy woman in a group of very unsexy women.”

Embattled songstress Amy Winehouse found herself in the second spot on the list, with the magazine citing her “translucent skin” and “rat’s nest mane.”

A “cold bedside manner and boyish figure” landed “Grey’s Anatomy” star Sandra Oh in the third spot on the list.

Meanwhile, the Material Girl finds herself fourth on the list, as Maxim dubs Madonna “unsexy” for her “self-righteous bellyaching and rapid postnuptial deterioration.”

The magazine even went as far as to call Madonna “Willem Dafoe with hot flashes.”

Sarah Jessica Parker Profiles

Sarah Jessica Parker (born March 25, 1965) is an American film, television and theater actress and producer. She is best known for her leading role as Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO television series Sex and the City, for which she won four Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Emmy Awards. She played the same role in the feature film version of the show, which was released on May 30, 2008. She also has three of her own fragrances: Lovely, Covet and Covet Full Bloom.

Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, the daughter of Barbara, a nursery school operator and teacher, and Steven Parker, an entrepreneur and journalist.[1] Her father, a native of Brooklyn, was Jewish, the original family surname being "Bar-Kahn" ("son of Kohen"); Parker has said of herself, "I always just considered myself a Jew".[2] Parker's parents divorced early on in Parker's life and her mother remarried Paul Forste. Parker grew up with her mother, stepfather, and seven siblings (three from her parents' marriage, and four from her mother's second marriage).

As a young girl, she trained in singing and ballet, soon being cast in the Broadway production of The Innocents. Her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then to Dobbs Ferry, New York, near New York City, where Parker was developing her career as a child actress. In 1977, the family moved to the newly opened planned community on Roosevelt Island, in the East River between Manhattan and Queens, and later to Manhattan proper; her parents later moved to Englewood, New Jersey where she attended Dwight Morrow High School.[3]

Parker attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, the School of American Ballet and the Professional Children's School, Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California, and later Dwight Morrow High School.

Acting career

She and four siblings appeared in a staging of The Sound of Music in St. Louis, MO [1], and Parker went on to the new 1977-81 Broadway musical Annie — first in the small role of "July," and then succeeding Andrea McArdle and Shelley Bruce in the lead role of the plucky Depression-era orphan, beginning March 6, 1979. Parker held the role for a year.

In 1982, Parker was cast as the co-lead of the CBS-TV sitcom Square Pegs. The show lasted only one season before being cancelled by the network, but Parker's performance, as a shy, misfit teen who showed hidden depths, was critically well-received. In the three years that followed, she was cast in four films — the most significant of those being Footloose in 1984 and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, co-starring Helen Hunt, in 1985.

In 1986, Parker appeared in the cult classic Flight of the Navigator, a Disney science fiction film about a boy, David, who is relativistically transported in time by an alien spacecraft eight years into the future without aging.

By the early 1990s, Parker's career was gaining momentum. In 1991, she appeared in a supporting role in the romantic comedy, L.A. Story; both the movie and her performance garnered positive reviews. The following year she landed an important starring role in the well-received film Honeymoon in Vegas, co-starring Nicolas Cage. Her 1993 role in the film Hocus Pocus was a higher grosser at the box office but received negative reviews, also in 1993 starred as a police diver opposite Bruce Willis in film" Striking Distance". The following year, she appeared opposite Johnny Depp in the critically acclaimed movie Ed Wood.

The film Miami Rhapsody, in 1995, saw her back on familiar territory with more romantic comedy material and a leading role. She appeared in another Tim Burton-directed movie, Mars Attacks!, as well as The First Wives Club and The Substance of Fire, in which she reprised her 1991 stage role, in 1996. In 1997, she appeared as Francesca Lanfield, a washed-up former child actress, in the comedy Til There Was You.

Sex and the City

The script for an HBO drama/comedy series titled Sex and the City was sent to Parker. The show's creator, Darren Star, was determined that she be cast in his project. Despite some early doubts about being cast in a long-term television series, Parker agreed to star.[4]

The show proved to be an instant success, raising Parker's profile considerably. Despite the show's increasingly risqué storylines, Parker retained the strict no-nudity clause in her contract throughout the show's six-season run. Parker became a producer for the show starting with its third season. In 2004, Parker won an Emmy award for her lead role (after five consecutive losses). Parker stated in 2006 that she "will never do a television show again",[5] although she will co-executive produce a new HBO series based on Washingtonienne, but will not star in it.[6]

After Sex and the City ended in 2004, rumors of a film version circulated and it was revealed that a script had been completed for such a project. However, Parker commented that it would likely never be made.[7] Two years later, however, preparations were resumed, and the film was released throughout the world on May 30, 2008.

Later theater, film work and reality production

In addition to work in movies and television, Parker is also a respected stage actor, having appeared in well-reviewed lead roles in the off-Broadway play Sylvia, alongside husband Matthew Broderick in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and the Tony Award-nominated Once Upon A Mattress, as Princess Winifred the Woebegone.

In December 2005, Parker appeared in her first theatrical film in several years, The Family Stone; she received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress - Comedy for the role. Her next film, the romantic comedy Failure to Launch, co-starring Matthew McConaughey, was released on March 10, 2006 and opened at #1 in the North American box office, grossing slightly over $24 million in its opening weekend,[8] despite mediocre reviews.[9] Parker's work as a producer continues with the independent film Spinning Into Butter, based on the Rebecca Gilman play, which she will also star in. Parker was initially set to star in Vacancy, along with her co-star from The Family Stone, Luke Wilson, but she dropped out in favor of other projects. Kate Beckinsale later won the role.

On July 20, Bravo announced it had picked up a reality show produced by Parker under the working title "American Artist." [10]

Parker is also producing a new comedy series for HBO called "Washingtonienne". The pilot is currently in production and will air in 2009. The show revolves around the lives of three smart and sophisticated friends, all working for powerful men on Capitol Hill.

Fashion industry

Parker is a fashion icon and has become very influential in the world of fashion. In 2000, she hosted the MTV Movie Awards and appeared in no fewer than 15 different costumes throughout the show.

She has also become the face of many of the world's biggest fashion brands through her work in a variety of advertising campaigns. In August 2003, Parker signed a highly lucrative deal with Garnier to appear in television and print advertising promoting their Nutrisse hair products. In 2004, she fronted an international campaign by Gap, but her contract with the clothing giant was abruptly terminated in spring 2005 in favor of British soul singer Joss Stone. A friend of Parker's commented to the press that, "Sarah's spring campaign for Gap has only just started, and she feels the announcement of her replacement in the same week that the new ads are appearing is a bit of a snub".[11]

In addition to her advertising work, Parker released her own fragrance in 2005 called "Lovely". In March 2007, Parker announced the launch of her own fashion line, Bitten,[12] in partnership with discount clothing chain Steve & Barry's.[13] The line, which features hundreds of clothing items and accessories under $20, launched on June 7, 2007, exclusively at Steve and Barry's.[14] In July 2007, following the enormous success of "Lovely," Parker released her second fragrance "Covet." In 2007 Parker was a guest on Project Runway for the second challenge.[15]

In February 2009, as part of the "Lovely" collection, Sarah Jessica Parker will launch a series of three new fragrances called "Dawn", "Endless" and "Twilight."

Personal life

Parker was romantically involved with actor Robert Downey Jr. from 1984 until 1991. They met on the set of Firstborn. Downey had a drug problem and this had a significant effect on their relationship; referring to that time in her life, Parker has said: "I believed I was the person holding him together".[16] As her career continued to blossom into the 1990s, she met journalist John Kennedy Jr. and dated him for several months. She was also romantically linked to singer-songwriter Joshua Kadison in the early 1990s, who described their tumultuous relationship and their cat Moses in the song "Jessie" on the album Painted Desert Serenade.

On May 19, 1997, she married actor Matthew Broderick, to whom she was introduced by her brother at the Naked Angels theater company where they both performed.[17] The couple married in a civil ceremony in a historic synagogue on the Lower East Side of Manhattan that is no longer used as a house of worship; both Parker and Broderick (who each have one Jewish parent) consider themselves to be "culturally Jewish."[18] Parker has also defended the state of Israel. "I feel defensive when people say, 'How can Israel go in with tanks?'," she says, "What are they supposed to do? Children are being killed by people willing to strap bombs to their bodies and walk into the public market. So Israel's response to this is to protect its people."[2] The couple's first child, son James Wilkie Broderick, was born on October 28, 2002. He was named after Broderick's father, the actor James Broderick. His middle name is that of author Wilkie Collins, an author Broderick and Parker greatly admire.

Parker and Broderick live in New York City and frequent the arts. Parker and Broderick also spend a considerable amount of time in County Donegal, Ireland where Broderick spent his summers as a child. Parker is a prominent member of the Hollywood's Women's Political Committee and is UNICEF's Representative for the Performing Arts; in 2006, she traveled to Liberia as a UNICEF celebrity ambassador, and has commented that, "It's a place that gets little or no attention, so we're going to try and bring some attention to it."[19] She is currently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States.

As of 2008, she lives in New York City with her husband and son. All three are left-handed.

E! News confirms that prior to her appearance at the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star game, she had her signature mole removed.[20]

Agyness Deyn Profiles

Agyness Deyn (born Laura Hollins[1] on 16 February 1983[2]) is an English model. Deyn has been hailed as "the fashion industry's next great supermodel" and an "ambassador of British youth culture".[3]

Deyn is from Failsworth in Greater Manchester.[4][5] The daughter of a nurse, Lorraine, and second of three children she attended All Saints RC High School, as well as Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School and Sixth Form in Waterfoot, Rossendale.

Deyn's name was apparently coined after she consulted her mother's friend, a numerology expert who advised her of the most 'fortuitous' way to spell the name 'Agnes'. [6] It was reported that her mother Lorraine and sister Emily have both changed their surname to Deyn, while Lorraine has changed the I in her first name to Y.[7]

Deyn's working life started serving part-time aged 13, at a fish and chip shop in Ramsbottom. Even at an early age she had an eye for style and by 17 she had already had her head shaved. "I’ve had short hair since I was 13, and when I was 17, I had a skinhead." [8] In 1999, she won the Rossendale Free Press "Face of '99" competition, aged just 16.[9] She then moved to London, working in a fast-food restaurant during the day and a bar at night but admits: "It didn’t quite work."[10] During this time she says she was also at college in Hull, studying drama and music. She was signed up by Models 1 when she visited the agency.

Modelling career

In May 2007 she was featured on the cover of Vogue from USA, alongside Doutzen Kroes, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Jessica Stam, Coco Rocha, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman, and Lily Donaldson as the new crop of supermodels.

As for professional endorsements Deyn has appeared in advertisements for Anna Sui, Blugirl by Blumarine, Burberry, Cacharel, Gianfranco Ferré, Moussy, Maison Gilfy, Shiseido, Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, Paul Smith, Reebok and Vivienne Westwood. Prior to her professional acting career, Miller worked as a photographic model. She signed with Tandy Anderson, and modeled for Coca-Cola, Italian Vogue, and posed topless in the 2003 Pirelli Calendar.[2] Miller has also been closely associated with the style of fashion that became known as boho chic, much of which fashion followers noted was strikingly similar to the style of model Kate Moss.[3]

Miller signed a two-year contract with Pepe Jeans London; the jeans ad campaign first appeared in magazines March 2006.[4]

Acting

In her early career, Miller performed in several amateur New York City plays including The Striker, Independence, and Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella's Cigarettes & Chocolate.

In 2001, she made her film début with South Kensington, with Rupert Everett and Elle Macpherson. Her next projects were High Speed and The Ride (aka Joy-Rider) in 2002. In 2003, Miller had a recurring role in Simon West's television action drama series Keen Eddie. Miller had supporting roles in the remake of the 1966 film Alfie starring Jude Law in 2004. In the same year, she made Layer Cake with Daniel Craig. In 2005, she made her professional stage début as Celia in a West End production of Shakespeare's As You Like It alongside Helen McCrory and Dominic West. She understudied the lead role of Rosalind, which she played for one performance, when McCrory fell ill.

Later that year, Miller played the female lead opposite Heath Ledger in the period drama, Casanova, followed by what is known as her breakthrough role portraying 1960s socialite and Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick in the film Factory Girl, which opened December 29, 2006.

In 2007, Miller played a small role opposite Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro in Matthew Vaughn's fantasy epic Stardust, based on the book by Neil Gaiman of the same name. That same year, she played an American starlet to Steve Buscemi's reporter in the film Interview, a remake of the Dutch movie with the same name. Later in 2007, she portrayed an undead bride opposite James Franco in the horror comedy Camille which did not receive a wide release and went to DVD shortly thereafter.

In 2008, Miller appeared in the film version of writer Michael Chabon's novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, also starring Peter Sarsgaard and filmed The Edge of Love, with friend Keira Knightley, a biopic of Dylan Thomas in which she plays his wife Caitlin.

She appears in two upcoming films: Hippie Hippie Shake a new Working Title production directed by Beeban Kidron also stars Cillian Murphy set in the 1960s, and a live-action film adaptation of the comic book and cartoon G.I. In 2006, it was announced that Miller would design a fashion capsule for Pepe Jeans; the project was later expanded to become a complete fashion label. Called Twenty8Twelve, it gets its name from Miller's date of birth and is financially backed by Pepe Jeans.[6] The collection, which Miller designed with her sister Savannah, a professional fashion designer, launched in September 2007.[7]

Personal life

Miller's relationship with then-married father of three Alfie co-star Jude Law, was constantly featured in the entertainment press. On Christmas Day of 2004, they became engaged.[8] On July 8, 2005, Law issued a public apology to Miller for having an affair with the nanny of his children.[9] Despite attempting to salvage their constant on/off relationship, Miller and Law finally separated the following November.[10]

Miller dated Welsh actor Rhys Ifans from August 2007 - June 2008. Miller said of the split, "I really thought I was very ready to settle down, but then I realized I wanted to be selfish for just a little bit longer."[11]

Shortly before her relationship with Ifans abruptly ended, Miller began a sexual liaison with actor and father of four, Balthazar Getty, who is still married to designer Rosetta Getty (née Millington).[12][13]
